Why optimise for mobile? Here’s 11 million reasons!

We here at Social Tap spend a lot of time chatting to our clients about the importance of making sure their business website is mobile-optimised.

Why you ask? They ask that a lot as well.

The answer is simple. Australia has the second highest smartphone usage by population density* and at May 2013, 11.19 million people in Australia had a smartphone, up 2 per cent from May 2012 (ACMA Communications report 2012–13).

This affects businesses because 61% of mobile users will leave and are unlikely to return to a website they had trouble accessing on their phones*, and in the hospitality world this means their search for information on your business will most likely take them to the murky world of review sites.

While you may have a slew of glowing reviews on Yelp or Tripadvisor, you have no control over the first one this potential new customer will be shown. On your mobile-friendly website, however, you have full control.

We specialise in creating websites that are mobile responsive, meaning they can detect the width and length of the device’s screen and accommodate for it.

In a perfect world this potential new customer’s user experience of a website would be:

  • Hearing a venue’s name
  • Searching for it online using their smartphone
  • Clicking the link to the website
  • Easily navigating the menu to the contact page (while being won over by the easy to read fonts, professional photos & appealing design)
  • And calling the venue to make a booking just by touching the phone number on the page.

That is the beauty of a mobile responsive website. If the customer’s experience is anything less than easy, breezy and effortless, they may just look elsewhere.

So take your smartphone out now and search for your business. If you are not happy with the results, your potential customers won’t be either.
